One caution: don't settle for the first manufacturer that appears. I've seen buyers choose a vendor based on Google rankings alone, then discover the supplier didn't have the necessary certifications. Checking product data sheets and asking for reference installations is non-negotiable.

Scenario C: You only have a problem statement

This is the hardest situation, and it's where most people make mistakes. If you can describe the problem but not the solution, resist the urge to call a salesperson right away. Instead, do a root-cause analysis. Talk to your maintenance team, search technical forums, or consult an independent engineer.

Think about it like a history question: if someone asks 'why did the first congress meet,' a shallow answer would be 'to talk about independence' or something vague. But the real reasons—taxation, representation, colonial rights—take a bit of digging. The same goes for equipment failures. You need the underlying reasons before you can choose a fix.

Ask yourself three questions:
